COMPANION PARROT WORKSHOPS...

Parrot Behaviour & Enrichment Consultations conducts Australia's most comprehensive and professionally presented Companion Parrot Workshops in partnership with Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, Gold Coast Australia. Our workshop provides companion parrot owners, veterinary nurses, bird retail staff, parrot breeders and parrot behaviour enthusiasts with an essential `toolkit' of knowledge, understandings and skills to provide the foundation for progressive parrot care and behaviour management. Now in our 5th year, the CWS Companion Parrot Workshop is Australia's most successful education experience for parrot enthusiasts with over 70 graduates having completed our course!

CWS PARTNERSHIP...

Delivered in partnership with Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, the workshop experience is presented within the beautiful sanctuary grounds, utilising the facilities and resources of CWS. This offers a true `immersion’ as a wildlife education experience. Participants are free to explore the Sanctuary exhibits at the conclusion of the workshop!

FOR ALL EXPERIENCE LEVELS...

The CWS Companion Parrot Workshop is designed to deliver information appropriate for participants who have a variety of knowledge levels about parrot behaviour and care. Experts and enthusiasts new to parrot ownership will benefit greatly from engaging in the learning experiences encountered throughout the day. Parrot breeders who handraise parrots for the companion bird market and bird retail staff are especially invited to ensure that they are equipped to provide the best level of pre and post sales advice to their clients.

NEW FORMAT...

In 2008 we introduced a new, single day format for the CWS workshop that proved to be our most successful day yet! In 2009 we will continue with this comprehensive scope for a special September 26th workshop day.

Participants will once again have the opportunity to enhance their ability to develop the optimum environment for their companion parrot, interpret their body language and behaviour more effectively, and develop behaviour management strategies using an Applied Behaviour Analysis approach, supported by positive reinforcement training.

The workshop will be delivered as a series of modules combining multi-media and practical demonstrations. Participants will also actively engage in opportunities to discuss their specific needs as parrot owners within a supportive, educational framework.

COMPREHENSIVE SCOPE...

The CWS Companion Parrot Workshop experience will take participants on an educational journey encompassing the following key learning topics and events throughout the day…

  • Parrot Enclosure Design & Management
  • Environmental Enrichment Essentials for Parrots
  • Diet Management - Establishing a healthy, species appropriate diet
  • An Introduction to Positive Reinforcement Training
  • An Introduction to Applied Behaviour Analysis
  • Applying ABA principles to problem solve common parrot behaviour issues
