PARROT CONSERVATION - GET INVOLVED, MAKE A DIFFERENCE... More than a quarter of the 350+ known parrot species in the world today are considered threatened in their native habitats. That's an alarming proportion and the primary reason for their demise is human exploitation of both the birds themselves, and their habitats. As keepers and passionate enthusiasts of parrots, the avicultural community has a significant obligation to make a genuine contribution towards the present and future protection of parrot populations around the world. Magnificent species, such as the Blue-throated Macaw Ara glaucogularis pictured at right, need to be preserved so that future generations can share in our experience of having shared time and space on this planet with these incredible animals. The unique and significant role that parrots play in the ecology of their native environments is irreplacable. The time to act to conserve their future is now. The simplest way to get involved, make a contribution, and commit to your obligation as a parrot owner towards parrot conservation is to financially support those organisations working to save parrots in their native habitats. The following organisations are making a real difference and need your assistance. Please consider supporting their campaigns - don't just think about, do it! |
